The new 2010 M6 Series comes in both coupe and convertible styles, seats four, and is powered by a 500 horsepower 5.0-liter DOHC 40-valve V-10 engine with M high-pressure Double-VANOS "steplessly" variable valve timing. Editors at Edmunds found the "performance of the BMW M6 to be simply intoxicating," and said, "The sounds emanating from the V10 power plant are like nothing else available to consumers." The performance and efficiency features for the 2010 M6 include an electronically controlled G-sensitive semi-dry-sump lubrication system, a 3-way catalytic converter with heated oxygen sensor, 10 individual throttle butterflies, an oil coolant heat exchanger, and a 7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) with drivelogic. Digital Motor Electronics with on-board diagnostics also comes standard. This system ensures optimum engine performance under all conditions by constantly monitoring various engine functions, such as the engine speed and the position of the choke valve.A few of the notable handling and ride features include Dynamic Stability Control with M Dynamic Mode, all season traction with an M variable differential lock, and Electronic Damping Control with Comfort, Normal, and Sport mode. DSC prevents a loss of traction in extreme situations when the vehicle may be about to slip off course. Combined with M Dynamic Mode, DSC gives BMW enthusiasts free range to explore their driving passion by increasing drive slip for both longitudinal and transverse dynamics at all speed levels. The brakes are 4-wheel BMW M vacuum-assisted ventilated, cross-drilled, anti-lock compound disc brakes. The M6 also comes with independent suspension with M calibration and includes stiffened dampers, springs and anti-roll bars; and modified rear axle geometry.
The new M6 treats you to Merino leather upholstered, 3-stage heated, 14-way power-adjustable, M sport front seats that come with a 3-setting driver's seat memory system, adjustable headrests, 2-way manual thigh support, 4-way lumbar support, and adjustable seatback side bolsters. While you're taking it easy in the comfortable seating you can enjoy your favorite music to the max on the Logic7 Surround Sound audio system that comes with an an anti-theft AM/FM stereo, a CD player with MP3 capabilities, 13 upgraded speakers (including 2 subwoofers), Digital Sound Processing (DSP), Radio Data System (shows artist and station information), Auto-Store, and a 3-channel FM diversity antenna.
The interior of the M6 features an M multi-function leather-wrapped sport steering wheel with SMG paddles, M Drive function, and cruise control. The multi-function steering wheel allows you to easily control oft-used functions such as audio controls or hands-free calling without reaching across the dashboard. Other instrumentation features include a start/stop button, an external temperature display, an on-board computer, vehicle and key memory, and a voice command system that allows you to use simple voice prompts to control features like the navigation and audio system. The navigation system in the M6 comes with an 8.8" screen and real time traffic information.
The interior is bedecked with comfort and convenience wherever you turn. You'll enjoy automatic climate control, a power tilt and telescopic steering wheel with automatic tilt-up, and a remote control key. Other notable interior features include ground-illuminating lights in the door handles, an integrated 3-button universal garage-door opener, a heated driver's door lock, a heated rear window defroster, a ski bag, and a glove compartment with a rechargeable take-out flashlight.
The eye-catching exterior is anything but bland. M Radial Spoke light cast alloy wheels as well as metallic point give the M6 some curb appeal while Park Distance Control and Xenon adaptive headlights make it easier to maneuver. Park Distance Control utilizes ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers to monitor the distance between your vehicle and other objects. It warns you with a series of warning tones that become quicker when you are getting too close to stationary objects. Xenon adaptive headlights can turn with your wheels as you go around a bend, giving you a better view of what's ahead. Other important exterior features include the M Mobility System with lifetime BMW tire roadside assistance, rainsensing windshield wipers, automatic headlight control, heated windshield washer jets, heated door locks, a headlight washing system, and heated side-view mirrors with electrochromic auto-dimming; power fold-up feature; and automatic tilt-down of the passenger's side-view mirror when the vehicle is shifted into reverse gear.
Naturally, the 2010 M6 comes with an abundance of safety and security features meant to protect you, your M6, and your passengers. You'll feel more secure knowing that an impact sensor comes standard. This feature activates the battery safety terminal disconnect of the alternator, fuel pump, and starter from the battery. The air bags include front door mounted side-impact air bags and a driver's and passenger's front airbag supplemental restraint system with dual-threshold, dual-stage deployment; and front-passenger seat sensors designed to prevent unnecessary airbag deployment. Other notable features include a remote keyless entry security alarm system, BMW Assist with Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free calling, and Coded Driveaway Protection.
